Pre-registration for turkey trot under way
Pre-registration for the annual Larry Cox Turkey Trot is under way.
The event is the primary fundraiser for Southern Ohio Crime Stoppers. The group is a mostly volunteer nonprofit that provides an avenue for people to anonymously inform law enforcement of crime tips. If the tip leads to the arrest and conviction in a felony case, Crime Stoppers provides a cash award as approved by the board.
The seventh annual 5K and 1-mile fun run turkey trot will begin at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day in the Donald M. Smith Memorial Pool parking lot in Yoctangee Park.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. and costs $30 with a trot hoodie, $20 with a trot T-shirt, and $10 for children 10 and younger with a T-shirt. Only pre-registrants are guaranteed a race day T-shirt or hoodie. The top five male and female runners will receive a pumpkin pie.

Robbery at Circle K is fifth in 14 months
Circle K on North High Street was robbed early Monday, the fifth such incident at the convenience store in the past 14 months.
The robbery Monday occurred at 12:40 a.m. when the suspect — described as white male, taller than 6 feet — entered the store and brandished a silver semi-automatic handgun, said Bud Lytle, public information officer for the Chillicothe police.
The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash. Surveillance images show the suspect with a dark hooded jacket and red bandana covering his or her face.
The same Circle K store was robbed in August 2010, twice in January and again in June.

Police ask public for help solving area break-ins
Surveillance footage shows at least two people broke into a sports store over the weekend and took an assault rifle.
The break-in at Dunham’s Sports in Shawnee Square was one of five breaking-and-entering reports from early Sunday morning. Footage released by the Chillicothe Police Department shows what appears to be two men walking in the area where weapons are on display at the store about 3:23 a.m. The pair made away with at least one Sentry Sports .233 assault rifle and other items, police said.
Police are still determining whether the break-in at Dunham’s is related to one at Kitchen Collection in the Chillicothe Mall. Police discovered that break-in, through a rear door, at about 3:20 a.m.
Additional break-ins were found at 8:16 a.m. at Dairy Dream Carry-Out on South Paint Street and 8:42 a.m. at a home on the 500 block of North High Street.
Several cartons of cigarettes and other items were reported taken from Dairy Dream. The High Street residents reported jewelry, change and a .380 Hi-Point pistol were among the items missing.
Surveillance footage shows someone in dark clothing also attempted to break the front glass at Smoker Friendly in Central Center and set off the alarm about 5:44 a.m. The person did not gain entry, unlike a pair who broke into the business in July and took multiple cartons of cigarettes.
On Thursday, at least two other businesses were the target for burglars. At about 12:37 a.m., a white male in blue pants, a tan coat and black Nike tennis shoes was caught on surveillance breaking onto the Shell on East Main Street. He took several packs of cigarettes.
Also early Thursday, someone took 200 feet of copper wire, a chain saw, two ratchet cutters, and a cordless Sawzall from AEP property on Hardin Drive.
Anyone with information about any of the break-ins should call the Chillicothe Police Department at (740) 773-1191.
Tips can be left anonymously by calling Southern Ohio Crime Stoppers at (740) 773-TIPS.
